Chairman's welcome address

I welcome you warmly to the official website of The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ibadan Branch (The Premier Branch).

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ibadan branch, founded in 1960, is the first branch of this great and honourable society in Nigeria and that is why it is fondly referred to as “The Premier Branch”. Well over fifty (50) other branches have, over the last 57 years or so successfully and proudly emerged all across this country from right here.  The NSE Ibadan branch is no doubt the Mother of all branches, and its strategic status in the affairs of Engineering and Technology in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized.

By the grace of God and the common will of Ibadan engineers, this present administration came on board on the 1st September, 2017 with a mandate to steer the affairs of the NSE Ibadan branch for the next one year. As the leader of this new team, I am indeed most grateful to Almighty God and very thankful to each and every member of our branch for this rare privilege to serve our great and honourable society at this time.

During my tenure as Chairman, I will be working passionately and closely with members of my Executive Committee to vigorously pursue a 3-point Agenda as enumerated below:

1.    Nigerian Engineers to own engineering:
We are the Engineers, we are the professionals, we have the expertise and experience, we own and should own engineering. Hence we should be involved in every aspect of engineering designs and project construction. We intend to make our impact felt in the industry as Ibadan branch so that our input in all stages of engineering work and projects will no longer be side tracked.  With the full involvement of Engineers in projects and constructions the issue of buildings and structure collapse will be eradicated.
To make our impact felt, we are ready to go into collaborations with Government at all levels, Federal, State and Local. We will be going into partnerships with various corporate organizations in the metropolis.  We are not overlooking the involvement of Institutions, private companies and individuals as well.

2.    Synergy between NSE, Ibadan branch and the Corporate world:
During this Administration, we intend to build on existing relationships with the corporate world, foster new ones and create a lasting synergy between NSE, Ibadan branch and the corporate world. MOUs and Agreements will be executed; and many of our patriotic members will be direct beneficiaries of these gestures, as referrals and recommendations will be extended to them.

3.    Mentorship:
I am particularly very passionate about young and upcoming engineers and the future of our noble profession. The youths are the future of this nation, Nigeria.  We believe in continuity, hence our mentorship programs are aimed at sensitizing and guiding our young engineers properly such that they can be well prepared to take up future challenges.

For an effective mentorship plan, we shall be involving our elders and veterans who will be bringing experience and guidance to the fore, our contemporary engineers will enlighten us with current trends in Engineering practice, whilst our young engineers will be encouraged to be innovative and creative.

We have been and will continue to catch them young with programs like the NSE Ibadan Chairman’s quiz competition, competition for Engineering students and interns, awards and prizes for best Engineering graduates, career talks, seminars and workshops etc. We are also looking into scholarships and sponsorships for outstanding Engineering students within our domain.  We will open up more avenues for SIWES, Industrial Training programs and NYSC place of primary assignment for young aspiring engineers.
An effective and efficient mentor/mentee program shall be established and monitored.

This new Administration under my leadership intends to achieve all we have enumerated above and much more with the help of God and the goodwill, cooperation, support and dedication of our teeming members and friends of the Society.  We recognize that we cannot achieve these great and promising feats alone mentorship programs are aimed at sensitizing and guiding our young engineers properly such that they can be well prepared to take up future challenges.

As aptly put by Henry Ford in his saying – “coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success“. We intend to work together with all stake holders in achieving unprecedented and laudable successes worthy of note and emulation.  These are the legacies we desire to put down as indelible footprints on the sands of time.
I thank you and I count on you to take the NSE, Ibadan branch to greater heights together.
Best wishes and kind regards…

ENGR. ADEDAMOLA FALADE-FATILA, MNSE, MNIEEE,
CHAIRMAN
NSE, IBADAN BRANCH.
